Missions Team

The Missions Team at Christ UMC exists to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community, nation and the world.  Listed below are various activities the Mission Team is currently working on.  You can be changed by participating in missions as well as change the lives of others.  Now is our time to do our part for God! The team leader for Missions is Chuck Stripling; he can be reached at 318-687-6328 or 318-518-9625.

 New Mission Project

The Missions Team has undertaken a new local mission project.  Our church has committed to prepare 30 sack meals (sandwich, fruit, chips, granola bars) for the Hope House on the 4th Tuesday of every month.  These sack meals are distributed in the evening to fill in a gap not currently being served.  The Hope House is part of the Hope for the Homeless program which seeks to transition the local homeless to suitable housing.  The Missions Team is asking for help from other organizations within the church (Sunday School classes, UMW Circles, Scouts, etc) to help with this endeavor.  If you are interested in helping or would like more information, please call Chuck Stripling.

Bags not Rags

When children are taken from their homes and placed in foster care, they have already been in conditions that are less than adequate or possibly harmful.  Many times they are given only a trash bag to place all their personal belongings in.  Bags not Rags is trying to fill this gap. This organization is reaching out to the community for new or gently used duffel bags, back packs, totes, luggage, etc. These bags are periodically delivered to social services and offered to children when they are picked up from their homes.  Bags not Rags' mission is to eventually ensure that no child in foster care ever uses a trash bag as luggage again.

The Unity Sunday School Class is heading up this project and their classroom will serve as the collection site.
